Has anyone ever been to Tahiti?

Are things cheap once you get there (i.e. lodging, food, activities, etc.) like they are in Thailand, or is it really expensive and touristy?

I have never gone but my sister has been........... $$$ to get there (Vancouver to LA to Tahiti $2400 cdn but that was 6 years ago).

On a side note....... my friends got an awesome deal to Hong Kong $600 Cdn frfom Vancouver. They are going to fly out of Macau to Bangkok for $60 cdn return

Mostly expensive and touristy unfortunately. On Moorea and Bora Bora, there are some remote places which may be more "local" pricing, but I can't say for sure as I didn't see many of them.

There are round-trip tickets on sale, all taxes included, for only $777 from LAX right now. If things won't be dirt cheap when I get there though, it might not be worth it. Is it kinda like Hawaii?

Tahiti and Bora Bora ae my 2 dream vacation spots that I'm hoping I can go on when I get married.

we were considering going there this summer or to fiji...
tahiti is going to be more pricy in general (or so the folks i spoke with told me)
where as in Fiji, the resorts might be a bit more, but the other things like food and drinks are a bit better in price.
Also, depending on which island you choose in either one of those places will also dictate price.
