No, but I lived in the Dominican Republic for two years. Not reallyl relevant though. Different islands and all that.

Do you even know what the translation of the name of the island is in English?

Yeah. A few years ago I went there with my dad on a summer vacation. Some suggestions:

1 - Do not go on an organized all-inclusive 1 week tour. There is not 1 week worth of stuff to do there.
2 - Spend a day or two in Monteverde. It is a rugged drive, so you may want to hire a driver while in San Jose, but the views are more then worth it.
3 - When in Monteverde, do Sky Trek. It is the best platform ride in the Rainforest, including one over a several hundred meter rainforest canyon.
4 - See Mount Arreal (sp?)
5 - If you go white water rafting, remember that the conditions are seasonal. A three star rapid in the summer is easily five star (as I found out when everyone including our guide fell out of the boat multiple times)

Is Costa Rica were they filmed Jurassic Park, I heard some of the Dinos they used in the movie got loose and are running around free there eating people.

no...my friend has been there several times..so we'd be doing our own thing the whole time..

I lived there for nearly seven months, June to December of 2001.

Go!!!!!

I recommend you pick up the guidebook "Lonely Planet to Costa Rica".

I never visited Volcan Arenal, but I did go to Volcan Irazu. Closer to San José. I recommend you fly into Juan Santamaria Airport in Alejuela, because it is on the outskirts of the capital. Most travellers get a hotel there and then travel around by bus. I went to Monteverde three times, several trips to Manuel Antonio beach, once to Guanacaste on the west coast, and several trips to the Caribbean side. Indeed they filmed Jurassic Park in Costa Rica. I also did white water rafting on the Rio Pacuare. Hell, bring me with you and I'll be your tourguide!

If you want numbers, tips for accomodations, info on what to look out for in terms of safety, LMK. Feel free to pm me.

<---*sigh*....memories.

Pura vida, mae!

My best friends mother is Coasta Rican, He was born there but his dad is Amerucan. They really like it there except all the police carry machine guns.
