Has anyone ever actually worked with tax liens?

I've heard these suggested from a number of "get rich quick" espouters. They don't seem to be advertised readily by the county I live in, but apparently they are available (depending, of course, on the state of the economy and where you live).

Does anyone have any experience with them?

It varies from state to state but where I live if you buy from a property tax auction a redemption certificate is given to the one who defaulted on paying their taxis and has 3 years after the sale to redeme the property. These certs. are not transferrable, they used to be but was a lot of guys buying them for cheap and the guy bying the property getting screwed after he had put a bunch of money in the property. It cannot even be bought by the new owner. Now a IRS tax sale is altogether different. The title to the property changes hands on a specific date after the auction. The guys that are selling this information is just ripping the unfortunate for a lot of money. If you just want to buy the back taxes there is a fee involved and if the tax is paid soon after you have paid it you lose.
