Ok i run a pretty standard desktop....XP Pro 2400 athlon...MSI mobo....512K DDR pc2100 ram......40 gb and 70 gb hdd..NO OC.
This is somthing I've built over time. Everything is pretty new ~6months especially the mobo, processor and hdd's.
I encountered this message during the boot, after the memory test.
"Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt: windows\system32\config\system
You can attemp to repair this file by starting windows setup using original setup CD Rom Select 'R' at first screen to repair"
I repaired it according to the intructions given and it worked for a day, then unexplicabily the next day the message was there again!
Then I formatted the HDD's and gave it a clean install of XP Pro. That worked for about a week then the same message happens again!
What do you guys and gals think? Please Help, is this a hardware or software issue?
Why would it work then stop?
Thank you in advance for your help and suggestions.
Happy Holidays!
-Frustrated Computer Owner that is about to toss this POS out the window and go intel or a prebuilt box (dell (evil))
