has anyone else noticed that asians are smaller than your typical white/black guy?

Outside of the US you would be a giant, however with 1/3 of all Americans obese, you fit right in here.

It was my 1st trip out of the country. First thing I noticed when I got off the plane in Seattle was where the hell did all of these fat people come from.

Never noticed how terribly fat most of us are.

Partly diet. It seems Asians born here are more on par with typical white/black Americans that are born here.

This. My high school had quite a few european-sized asians. Standard 5'10" tall and 160lbs (or whatever the average is for high school students). One of my better friends at the time was Vietnamese; both parents were first generation immigrants who left during the Vietnam war. My friend was quite a bit taller than his parents and had a much more solid build.

I'm ~5'7", and 140lb. But I work out and eat like a monster to maintain that (I try to get 5000+ calories a day, admittedly I get lazy and fall short sometimes). When I first started going to the gym I was around 115lb. Food just seems to get nowhere, I can't explain it.

Also @ mosh, I'd need some way to compare if they're any straighter than normal. They're not really curly, no.

Edit: Oh, I'm Asian. Forgot I don't have that Asian-face avatar anymore.

Disagree. Even US-born East Asians are generally shorter than their non-Asian counterparts. However, they do seem more likely to be overweight.

Therefore, I guess that the height difference is genetic, while the reason East Asians are usually skinnier than American is the diet.
