Has anyone done this....

or something like it? My friend wants to have an extremely quiet computer and was thinking about replacing his four case fans with the Papst 12dB fans. I have no idea what the CFM is for those fans, but he wanted to know if anyone has done this before and what the results were. He owns a Lian-Li PC-65 case. If anyone has done this, or something close to it, let me know what you think. Thanks.

Yes. All my fans are Papst NGL fans i.e. the 12db fans except for the PSU fan. I havent got around to it yet as I just got myself a new PSU. I had a Papst fan in the old PSU though.

One Papst on Alpha 8045 heatsink, one on MSI G3Ti200 and one case fan blowing out above CPU. The case is also filled with noise dampening material. Case temp is around 28C and CPU temp around 48C.

Is it quiet: Yes.
Was it expensive: Yes.
Was it worth it: Definitely.

Edit for spelling.

AT, maybe you wanna edit your message again for spelling....not your fault....i see it all the time, so you probably just picked up on it

definitely, not definately

The Papst fans sound great, but I'm curious about how well they really cool. The reason is that I also have a Lian-Li PC-65 case, just like my friend and with the stock fans the case temp. is around 40 degrees in an air conditioned room. To me it would seem that going to such a low noise fan would just make things warmer and I know I wouldn't want that, although my friend is a little more lenient when it comes to temps. AT, what kind of case do you have? I was surprised when you mentioned the case temps. Anyone else have experience with the Papst fans?

If you're on a crusade against "definately," you have your work cut out for you! 😉

Last bump since I want to give my friend a definite answer as to whether he should do this or not.

yes those fans will be quieter, but have you ever looked in a dell case? 2 fans including the powersupply. no fan on the heatsink just a pipe to a fan on the back.

I bet he could lose a few fans and have little affect on temperature.

I have a basic Enlight 7237 case so nothing fancy.

I agree with others that four fans is a little much. If he really needs them the quiet Papst fans are not going to work for him. They dont move that much air but with good heatsinks and some planning they are sufficient.

ObiDon, that's pretty funny....i actually think more people spell it "definately" or "definatly" than the correct way, so you're right...it would have to be like launching a crusade. i'm not gonna do that. i normally let it slide, but since he edited his message for spelling, i figured i'd point out he wasn't done. i hope i didn't come off as an *sshole....never my intention. i respect everyone on this forum. people spend their time helping others...it's a wonderful thing. but i just thought i'd help one ATF brother out.
