Has anyone dealt with brain abscesses or know about them?

One of my family members just had emergency brain surgery to deal with a brain abscess (infected spot) in the left frontal lobe that was pressing on the speech and emotion centers of the brain. I was just curious if anyone out there has to deal with this either personally or with a family member/friend?

I'm curious about potential long-term effects, drug side effects, etc. I've done my google searches and medical site searches so please don't tell me to do that. I'm looking for experiences here from any ATOT people. Thanks.

a friend of mine had this a couple years ago. After the operation I went to see him in the hospital and completely expected him to be wrapped up like a mummy. When I got there you couldn't even tell he had surgery - he was up and alert, still had his hair, etc. He seems to have no side effects.
