Has anyone cracked their BB or PDA screen?

A customer of our came in with his BB that was cracked. Not just cracked, but it looked as though it was punctured in the center. Kind of like he took a screwdriver and stabbed the dead center of it. Our policy is to immediately give him the latest and greatest. He said he tripped over the cat and it hit the side of the kitchen counter. I just can't believe that the counter would do that much damage. I wish I had it so I could show you the puncture in it. I'm probably the worst when it comes to handheld abuse. I don't put a cover on my devices and I have no sympathy for them whatsoever. Never have I cracked it this bad.

Have you guys ever seen a handheld screen completely punctured or smashed accidentally?

Did he get a new latest BB? If yes.. then whatever he did was successful..


I have not seen BBs cracked.. Most common thing we see is when BB gets dropped in water..

we have had drop accidents and those that dropped them in a parking lot and didn't find them until the next day.

There is really not much you should be doing to research employee self-damage. Anything is possible.

However; if we have a person that regularly damages their equipment we will have a memo emailed to them, their boss and HR explaining due care and costs.

That is usually enough to stop the 'free upgrade' cycle. Also we keep several older models in stock so usually we will backfill with those and save the 2 year upgrades options for others.
