Has anyone come across this before?
A7M266-D with nic
The nic has a hardware address is 00-00-00-00-00-00
I was told by there tech spt that you have to program the nic first to get the mac address, & that they only work with the A7M266-D board
The model of the in is PCI-L3C920 ?A 3COM 920 Nic?

Ok, maybe I am "off the mark" here but I just can't make sense out of your post. Can you be more specific please? You say that, "I was told by there tech spt that you have to program the nic first to get the mac address, & that they only work with the A7M266-D board". But you say previously that this is an "A7M266-D with nic ". Where's the confusion here? Help us all out so that we can help you, hopefully.

With board-embedded NICs, you might lose the MAC address when putting the wrong system BIOS in. Ask ASUS about what to do ... and dig up the assigned MAC address of your individual unit. Dunno about ASUS, but there should be a sticker or a note somewhere on the board and/or on the manual.

It's a PCI card then? Well in that case you're lost. Every piece of ethernet equipment must have had its MAC address assigned from the factory, that's how it works. If yours has none, and there's no sticker on it documenting yours, it's garbage bin time.

I Know that you need a MAC address that is different from the rest and one off a kind,
That's why I am asking the question

So do you have written evidence of an assigned MAC address anywhere on that thing then? If not, you're busted. If you do, contact 3Com about how to get it programmed back into the card.
