I've been looking for a mp3 player in my price range (~ $150) for a long time now. I was thinking about getting a refurbished ipod from the Apple store. I didn't really care for new or old, but the price difference was about 50% difference. I wanted to know if anyone has bought refurbished ipods from the Apple store themselves? I really wanted an mp3 player and Apple seems to have all the accessories (like the car adapters) that I needed. I wanted to know the quality that comes out from the Apple store. Anyone have good and/or bad experiences? Thanks.

Me.
It was a 5.5G and worked just as my brand-new 3G did (does) until it was stolen at the gym.

Buy one, they're a good value for a HDD player; I'd only buy an iPod if it was refurbished. At regular price there are better alternatives IMHO.

I bought 2g and 3g couple years ago. Both died within a year. Had 2g replaced under warranty and the replacement also died in about 3 months.

Refurbished iPods? I thought Apple products are superior because "they just work".

Between me and my friends we have purchased quite a few refurbed iPods from the Apple Store. With the use I get out of my iPod (8-10 hours a day) I run through hard drives. Add the 2 year warranty to the refurb and you will be set.

I use my iPod at work for 8 hours a day, I have a nice setup in my office where it sits on a charger and is hooked up to 2.1 computer speakers. I have a nice hookup in my car, which is at least another hour a day for my drive time. At home I get at least an hour of soothing listening, maybe more on good days when I have time. I dont use playlists as much as I "should", the "should" meaning that I sacrifice battery power and spin up the drive more often by picking songs one at a time.

I know my usage far exceeds what Apple intends for an iPod, and as such Ive killed a few in the 4+ years that Ive owned an iPod. The two year warranty takes care of that problem for me. When I have had them die, it fails to load up and the hard drive will click. Apple Care does a good job of getting me another iPod with a quick turnaround. Ive convinced all my friends to buy iPods through Apple's refurb selection, and they have experienced no problems either.

Bought a refurb 2g for $160 almost four years ago from Hot Deals and it's still going strong.
