there aren't any official isos. the "best" option is to compile the whole thing yourself if you have the time.

You don't mean actually compile the software on the dreamcast do you? Just get the proper stuff and put it on cd... right?

U can really use DC to host a website...? Are there any sites currently running on a DC? I can see it now: Network rooms across the country full of PS2s and Xboxes haha

well, yes you can. but it's not really worth it because there's only 16mb of main memory and no hard drive (and the bb adaptor is kinda crappy). it's more of a novelty instead of being practical.

i think there have also been preliminary ports of linux to the ps2. that thing is more practical 'cuz you can hook up firewire peripherals to it

too bad the Xbox has to look like a console, otherwise we could buy them and take them apart and sell the parts for a profit since MS takes a hit everytime they sell one.

You know that's going to be possible when it comes out...every PC-like appliance has been hacked in one way or another. Remember the I-Opener? You could have a full-fledged PC for $299 if you bought that thing. And the TiVo? You can add hard drives to that like crazy and increase your record-time for a lot less $$ than it is to upgrade the unit.

Do you think it is within the realm of possibility that this thing will be "editable" such that it is a genuine fully usable PC of the same caliber? Ie, I could start loading all my progs into it and whatever else?

Well I don't see why not. I'm sure Microsoft will include some sort of encryption with the intention of hindering people from modifying the OS or the internal memory, but I'm sure somebody will hack that. So, when that's done, I would think you could just boot it with a Linux install CD or a Win2000 CD and install that on it. Then you could open up the case and find the motherboard, and if it's not proprietary, hook up a mouse to the PS/2 or USB ports, maybe VGA port for a monitor, etc. But it's all speculation, they may put in a proprietary "complete system" like what is done in some desktop computers. We'll have to wait and see. ;)

I'd say the X-Box has a good chance of being converted to a real PC because that's basically what it is minus operating system. It should probably be even easier than the I-Opener since the X-box already comes with a hard drive.

The only obstacle I can see would be drivers (shouldn't be hard since the X-Box is basically made from PC parts) and possibly some sort of BIOS hack/boot disc to boot the thing up.

Well if that was the case it would sell an unbelievable number of units, i mean damn if you get an Xbox PLUS a pretty decent PC, can't complain...course it wouldn't have a heck of a lot of ram for standard applications.
