Has anyone been able to get either Gnutella or Bear Share to work on a LAN?

I used gnutella at home before I came to school on this computer, but now it won't connect. I had the same problems with Bear Share as well. Is there something I have to customize to get them to work on a LAN or something?

how about any firewalls that you may have on the computer(s)?

I don't believe I'm behind a firewall, at least I've never had to select that option before.
