Has anybody here ever seen Cast Away?

... wow. I'm still just sitting here with a blank look on my face. I feel like I've been on an emotional roller coaster that led to some place that I don't understand... I'm not even sure why I'm typing this, really. Just sort of therapeutic maybe? That movie completely blew my mind. Which is strange because the movie in and of itself was nothing I haven't seen before. Just... different.

I felt the same way about American Beauty, except I really hadn't seen anything like it before. So really, i felt very different then you did. Hmmm, what was I talking about?

i kinda thought it sucked...lol...i thought oh brother where art thou was funny...adn i liked unbreakable...although i wish it was like two hours longer.
and whats the big deal bought helen hunt...she looks like a guy in drag...lol

oh brother where art thou had an awesome soundtrack, that one song "I am a Man of Constant Sorrows" is great

i sat through it and was quite moved..i really thought the ending did it justice and was great

my dad, on the other hand, thought the ending was WAY too long and drawn out...so i guess we all have our opinions.

lol I read *most* of Robinson Crusoe this year for a book report. I think I skipped the journal chapter to finish it in time... Either way, I didn't like it a whole lot. I could relate better to the modern setting and characters of Cast Away. Which is really the reason I think it blew me away. I kept thinking, "What if that were me?" It still creeps me out to think about it. Would I commit suicide, try to live on the island, or make some sort of a raft and try to drift away?

It would be such a psychological disaster, I think. I can completely see why Hank's character became so attached to Wilson... Now I'm just rambling. Overall, good movie, but I don't think I want to see it again. *ironic smile*

Yeah this movie is somethin' else. I hadn't been that moved by a movie since "28 Days"...

Tom is one of a kind. NO other actor could have pulled it off but him.

I dont think Cast Away was terrible, it's just that it kinda gets boring when they showed tom hanks talking to a ball for an hour without anything significant happening.

Well, I think it's a lame movie if you keep yourself detached from it. If you just say "Yeah, it's a guy on an island. So what?", then you're not going to get anything out of it. But if you think about what he's feeling and think about how you'd feel in his place, it will (I think) blow your mind. There's some pretty heavy stuff in there...

That movie reminds me of a book I read in elementary.. "The Hatchet" I think that's what the book's name. The movie was pretty good although I think that they drag it out a little too long and I also felt that they didn't really show the hardship that the man has been thru.. it's like after he made fire BOOM 10 years later.. but I agree that it's a very emotional movie.. especially the part where he lost Wilson 🙁
A friend of mine helped rigged the air plane crash where boxes came crashing and things like that 🙂

i loved castaway but i know a lot of people didn't like it because of it being almost like watching a nature show hehe. but i became very attached to tom hanks. the movie brought me to tears. i loved the movie tho!!

tom hanks........my aunt told me i'm like him somehow

i dunno, we don't look alike or sound a like or anything, i think she drank too much wine 😉

Excellent plane crash, esp. the engine on the water part.

Movie was OK, pretty much what I expected. I did like the ending, or at least that they had the guts not to have a pat Hollywood ending.

American Beauty, OTOH, I thought was purely art for art's sake BS.

For some reason, te movie didnt impress me as much as some of his (Tom Hanks) other films. There were some good scenes but I got the overall feeling that they could have done more.

I loved that book when I was a kid. That was about the kid who crashes his plane and has nothing but his father's hatchet to live with, right? Great book.

On the matter of Castaway, I think it was a sappy mishmash of a bunch of things that have been done before and done better. Tom Hanks' performance was excellent though.

Now what I would really like to see is a good movie version of Jules Verne's The Mysterious Island. (If you can't tell, I usually like castaway movies, just not Castaway)

Personally, I didn't really like Cast Away, probaly because of how slow it gets after the plane crash. His activities on the island was rather boring and basically him self talking to that stupid Wilson.
