Should be ok with good packing. My friend recently sent his for repair under warranty and it came back fine.

Make sure you pack it well, insure it, and require signature confirmation.

On another note, I will never use or allow any to send any packages to me via FedEX again. Had a motherboard sent to me on July 2 and delivered on July 7. Still don't have it. Tracking information claims that it was left at my front door however I don't have it and at the claimed time of delivery someone was home.

Ive shipped LCDs and a laptop Fedex and never had an issue. Either use the original packaging (ie Dell box for an LCD) or use a lot of that large bubble bubblewrap and put them in a new oversized box, you might want to doublebox the LCD.

When you are packing it... don't assume for a second that the amount of cushioning is enough.. short of wrapping it between two mattresses, always assume the worst ;)

Basically, double box it with a layer of protection in between the boxes, make sure you have about 4-6 inches of protection between the items and the boxes.

Get it insured.

It may cost about $50 to ship with with all the packing material, but I'm guessing your only other option is to drive it there yourself ;)

Tens of thousands of computers are shipped every day just fine. It's all in the packaging. Do a crap job and you're just begging for damage. Do a fine job in packing and it'll get there safely. Pay a mailing center to pack it for you if you lack the materials.

Double box and do not ship with the cpu heatsink attached. I have seen even decently packed computer with the cpu heatsink laying on a random part of the mobo, deep gashes on the mobo and the graphics card broken in half. Needless to say, that computer was destroyed and everything except the ram, cddrives were unusable. The harddrives were not recoverable.

Edit: it was one of the socket A single lug heatsinks. A bolt through design would have been fine as the plastic notches on the ZIFF socket were ripped off.
