Just wondering if anyone with oodles of cash has actually bought an opteron system yet, or has no-one gone overkill? If you have, how does it perform? 😀

I don't think I trust that... they can't even get their article right... they say for one of the benchmarks that the Opteron beats the Athlon XP3200... when the charts shows differently.
Yeah, heaven forbid someone should have a typo Jeff

Somehow I doubt it will get corrected.

No AGP slots yet, so it's a no go =)

The Accelertech/RioWorks HDAMB Typhoon 64 has an 8X AGP slot courtesy of the AMD 8151 AGP tunnel. Nice board. Is available. Newegg or Microtech may be able to hook you up. If you're a reseller, contact Avnet.

They used a GeForce4 MX440... they make PCI versions of those. But the high end video cards are AGP only.

It's not an upper high end card, but I have a GeForce FX 5200 (dual head) that's PCI in my system.

I was due for an upgrade and my company has a no-interest finance program and I had a side project that could use 2 cpus, so I got one! 🙂 From Micro-Pro for $1,700 (no OS) and it runs very nicely. I'm only running a 32 bit OS on it (WinXP) so I'm sure I'm not taking full advantadge.

I added a GeForce FX 5200 (PCI) for gaming. It's got the Tyan motherboard... 2 gigs of memory... 400 gigs of HD (an 80 w/8 megs, a 200 w/8 megs and a 120 w/2 megs)....

The only real benchmark is the distributed.net client. It's running the RC5-72 project and pulling about 9,196,604 keys/s

I find it odd that it took liquid nitrogen to get it to 2.22 Ghz. I wonder if it was REALLY that hot, or if he was going for the "kryotech approach"

I imagine the kryotech approach...AKA "Because I can!"
