Harware Dongles Virtual

We're getting a new door locking system. The system is managed by windows software. However the management software requires a hardware dongle attached to the server to work. We use Hyper-v for server virtualization and I can't find any way to get this dongle attached to a virtual computer. Does anyone have any ideas?

Depending on how the dongle software is set up it may not be possible. You really need to contact the maker of the dongle protection system or the softwares developer.

Dongles have been designed where they can detect virtualization, spoofing over networks, etc .

USB over Ethernet is used for this, but there's no guarantee that any particular dongle will work with any particular USB over Ethernet solution.

Belkin has a hardware device for around $100 that works for some.

And there's a (fairly pricey) software solution by Fabulatech that's supposed to be good.

Dang. I wish people would move away from dongles. I had an epiphany though, our voice mail server is suffering the same problem. I think we're going to end up putting both softwares on the same physical server. *sigh*

Thank you guys.

Wait till you get a "dongle war." Had a couple dongles that apparently used the same software to be read but different versions of that software... Installing one replaced the software for the other making one or the other program not work...
