I don't know what to do with all these green walnut things (the nut is surrounded by a very bitter and almost toxic fruit). But if I can pick them up off the ground and donate them I'd be more than happy to do so. I get maybe 3 bushel barrels out of each tree.

So what do I do with all this fruit? Squirrels sure do love them.

I have a gigantic Black Walnut tree just across my yard's boundary.

I bag them up and post them for free on FreeCycle and/or Craigslist. They're gone within a day.

Some people cook with them and such but I have no need for them.

Thanks, I've googled around and getting the nuts out of them seem to be an arduous task. Maybe just bagging them up when they are on the ground and giving them away would be best.

You actually get walnuts? I have a giant walnut tree in the backyard, about 30+ feet high. Every year the fruit gets to the size of a half dollar, the damn squirrels in the neighborhood come and raid the tree bare. The little bastards would come in 2-3 and just chew up the walnuts and dump everything on the ground. I wanna shoot them, but they're soooo damn cute!

I wouldn't bother donating them, you have to peel them and that's too much work.

Thanks, fixed.

I must have a male or two because the rest give off fruit that it's downright annoying. I'm talking at least 6 fruit on the ground per square foot. We're talking 6-8 tall lawn bags of walnuts each year total, I'd like to do something with them rather than throw them away.

Yeah you have to let them dry out, then peel the outer part off, then crack the inside, etc. Makes a HUGE mess. We tried it once with a few and said F that.

So yea, I bag them up when cutting the lawn and post them. Last year I had so many response I had to turn people away.

If you feel lucky you could even post that you have them and if they pick them they could have them. You might get out of having to do any work at all. heh.

The black fruity pulp around the walnut makes a very good dye for wood.

Another use is as a stomach reliever. Mix some of the black pulp with vodka or spirits. In small amounts, this combination is excellent for settling an upset stomach.
