Harting RJ Industrial Hybrid Plug

The title message is the opening line of the instructions im trying to read. My questions is, can i take a normal cat 5 network cable and use it with a industrial wireless access point? I bought a "Siemens Scalance W788 Access Point" Link and the instructions to putting it together involve taking some sort of cable and building a connector on the end of it to plug into the access point. I work at a business and we just have normal cat 5 ethernet cable. So am I ok or what? thanks a bunch

Post this in the Networking section with a more reasonable title like: "Industrial network wiring question", might help get more hits from folks that might know. Perhaps it requires shielded Cat5 cabling or some such. But since its standard Ethernet port is 10/100, I can't see why regular CAT5 wouldn't work. Perhaps a call to Siemens tech support would be worthwhile - after all that thing looks like it costs big bucks. Good luck.

. I just looked at the Harting hybrid connector and it looks like it can use regular Cat5 PLUS an extra cable to supply power to a remote device if needed. Both can be connected at once via the one connector.

Hey n0c,

. Was I anywhere in the ballpark with my educated guesses?

You went in the same direction I was going to go before I accidentally found the manual then accidentally found the answer.

The cable is a Power Over Ethernet cable. If he doesn't want to use that, there is another option available. Standard ethernet won't work, I don't think since it says if you aren't going to do PoE, put a cap on the connector...

Not 100% sure though, tech support is my friend. 😉
