Hars Disk Problem

Hi all,

I have a Quantum Fireball KA. The drive gives me no trouble except when I want to perform a scandisk or defrag. It simple won't get though a whole scandisk because it keeps restarting. There are no error messages it just restarts all the time. I have the same problem with defrag except it eventually does finnish this after a couple of hours. I also have a Quantum Fireball CX which doesn't give me any problem on the same controller

Does anyone have any idea? I've tried disabling all virus and other software running but it doesn't help.

Hmm, usually when scandisk keeps restarting on me is when the os is running something in the background and is constantly updating the harddisk. But in your case, i think maybe you could go try Norton Utilities?
 
You have some task running (besides scandisk) that is accessing the drive and forcing SD to restart over and over. Run SD after restarting in dos mode. Or do a ctrl-alt-del (or run WinTop) and kill everything that isn't necessary.
