Even the NY Times is pointing out that some Dems don't like the bill.
Some Democrats Are Balking at Obama’s Jobs Bill

And the theater around this bill is awesome.
Reid has blocked a vote on the bill at least twice now and yet Obama is blasting the Republicans in the house for not voting for the bill.
It's not clear which part of the bill they now object to: building roads, hiring teachers, getting veterans back to work. They're willing to block the American Jobs Act -- and they think you won't do anything about it.
I can't believe Democrats in the Senate are blocking all those great things...

Proof the can't get even 50 votes on a modified version of President Obama's jobs bill?
I didn't say modified. I said as written.

Twice the Republicans have called for a vote and twice Reid has refused to allow a vote.

Meanwhile Obama is running around the country blaming the GOP for blocking the bill when it is his own party that is doing the blocking.

That doesn't mean they can't get 50 votes also it takes 61 votes to break an inevitable Republican filibuster.

Are you stupid or are you just playing stupid??

The Democrats WANT the GOP to block the bill. That is Obama's whole campaign strategy. He is going to copy Harry Truman who ran against a "do nothing congress."

Look at what Obama said today:
"If Congress does something, then I can't run against a do-nothing Congress. If Congress does nothing, then it's not a matter of me running against them."

But that strategy won't work if his own party blocks HIS bill. Thus Harry Reid can NOT allow a vote on the bill unless he can get 50 Democrat votes and right now he can not.

If he allows a vote and every Democrat votes yes and the GOP blocks the bill then it gives Obama a huge campaign tool.

BTW this is no longer about a jobs bill or fixing the economy, this is about Obama winning in 2012. Start looking at his and Reid's action with that in mind and it might make more sense.

Wow, that is an interesting (and very bad) turn of events. I was very much against this "nuclear option" back in 2005 when the republicans were threatening to use it, and I'm very much against it now. The democrats (just like the republicans then) are unable to comprehend that at some point they will be in the minority and that this nuclear option essentially makes it a majority take all type of proposition in the senate much like in the house.

Definitely thumbs down on this.:thumbsdown:

Umm I'm not stupid for one and secondly I was commenting on your fact you pulled out of your ass about the number of votes that the Democrats had in the Senate not the politics behind each sides motives which are obvious.

Because they want it to fail, amirite?

It wouldn't fail if Obama's minions voted for it. amirite?

The Dems don't want to vote because they will not pass it.
Instead they want to blame it on the republicans. They just look like a 3 legged cat covering up a turd in the sandbox.

More like shame on thehill.com for getting the story wrong.

The OP is a complete quote of what they said last night. It wasn't until I found other sources that I learned what actually happened.

McConnell is just trying to embarrass Obama, not take any real action wrt jobs. Beat Obama! Nothing else matters to Repubs.
Obama is running around the country demanding that congress pass his jobs bill but Democrats in the Senate don't even want to talk about the thing.

Perhaps Obama should stop pointing fingers at the Republicans when it is Harry Reid who is blocking the bill right now.

And perhaps you are unaware of the fact that Obama KNEW this bill would not be passed because it contains tax increases that already failed the Senate once this year.

Then why has Reid blocked a vote on the bill TWICE now?

Because he's not ready for that. It's his prerogative as majority leader.

It's also your prerogative to keep embarrassing yourself with pointless hand-waving, too.

sure, but why are they being seen as obstructionists if they're trying to get his bill to vote? they're labeled as terrible if they want to vote and terrible if they try to block it..... come on left wing media...... be consistent.

They are being consistent. You should know that by now. Dem == good; Rep == bad.

Obama's 'jobs bill' is yet another example of his epic failure as a president. It a worthless plan, as a jobs bill and it's a worthless plan, as a campaign tool. Even his own party doesn't want anything to do with it.

Either McConnell & Co will filibuster the bill, or duck & send it to the Repub controlled HOR to be killed. Repubs have zero intention of letting the jobs situation improve if they can help it. It's too good a foil to throw away, regardless of the impact on the the rest of us.

It's called compassionate conservatism. They feel sorry for their victims. Honest.

WOW You guys on the Right should love major portions of this Bill which were previously endorsed by the Repubs and It's better then any jobs Bill that I have seen come out of the house ;)

Obama jobs bill picked apart by congressional Democrats
http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0911/63456.html#ixzz1a7Mszhmc
“Terrible,” Sen. Jim Webb (D-Va.) told POLITICO when asked about the president’s ideas for how to pay for the $450 billion price tag. “We shouldn’t increase taxes on ordinary income. … There are other ways to get there.”

“That offset is not going to fly, and he should know that,” said Democratic Sen. Mary Landrieu from the energy-producing Louisiana, referring to Obama’s elimination of oil and gas subsidies. “Maybe it’s just for his election, which I hope isn’t the case.”

“I think the best jobs bill that can be passed is a comprehensive long-term deficit-reduction plan,” said Sen. Tom Carper (D-Del.), discussing proposals to slash the debt by $4 trillion by overhauling entitlement programs and raising revenue through tax reforms. “That’s better than everything else the president is talking about — combined.”

How many more examples would you like?
Obama presented a bill that can't even get 50 votes in the Senate and he had to KNOW that when he presented it.

The whole thing was about politics. Even the way it was presented to the American people was about politics with the joint session and waiting till he returned from vacation to present the bill.

If this bill is so important then why did Obama go on vacation instead of work on the bill? And why are the Senate Democrats working a on China bill that has no chance in the house instead of working on the jobs bill?
