Hi,

I'm thinking about buying the "Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone (Book 1): Special Edition" to offer someone special.

Does anyone knows what that special edition has more than the normal edition?

Does all the special edition books have the same height, deepness (is this how you name it in english?)? I mean the width must be different, since all books have different page numbers 🙂

It may have been intened as a children's book, but it's popularity reaches to all ages. I've enjoyed reading the books.

b4u, I'd look at the reviews that Amazon.com gives to see the difference.

the special edition is leatherbound with gold leaf on the edges of the pages, making look like a very nice book. The other books have paper sleeves with the illustrated cover printed on. I think the special edition is taller and thinner, but the content is the same. None of the other books have a special edition yet, I think.

The special edition is one page long and summarizes the ending of the series for you.

I like how the British version is called the "Philosopher's Stone" whereas the US version is called the "Sorceror's Stone". I guess they figure American kids would brush aside anything with the word "Philosopher" in the title.

The problem is that most of amazon's reviews from readers talk about the STORY instead of the edition itself ... and amazon.co.uk don't have the dimentions info in this books ... already asked them, and received no answer - I mean they answered that they don't have the info 🙁.

Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (Book 2): Special Edition
Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (Book 3): Special Edition
Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (Book 4): Special Edition

There is special editions on all the books, except the last one. But it will become available. The person which I intend to offer this book to, will certainly make up a collection of them, so I thought the special editions would sit really cool on a stand (after they been read, of course 🙂 and probably re-read too).

Actually, they changed the name because it doesn't mean the same thing in British English and American English. Philosopher has a sorceror connotation in Britain but obviously not in the US. Something like that.

Well Hillary will be turning 16 soon, so she will not be underage. Age of consent here is 16.

anyways the special edition is just a super fancy version of the first book. i personally as a fan would just love to have it around, especially if they make special editions of all the other books. it's great to look at. same content though. hard cover, gold leaf on it, and harry in the middle of the cover.

if they're a big fan, they'd probably love it.

if they're truly special, hunt out jk rowling and have her sign it. good luck. 😉

Have you saw the books side by side? I believe they have same height, and (obviously) diferent thickness, but how about deepness?

(Deepness - is that how you describe the length of a book from the back of the stand?)
