Harry Potter question

Why do the wizards celebrate Christmas and other religious holidays? Wouldn't that be a muggle thing or was Jesus a wizard?

Most of the wizards or students don't know anything about muggles and the muggle world.
Wouldn't the existance of magic be proof that Jesus and God didn't exist, unless they too were wizards or something along those lines?

I totally think the Empire would decimate the Federation. That said, who'd win between the Emperor, Kirk and Dumbledore in a contest for picking up chicks?

Reason #1 - It's a book, leaving holiday's out takes away from some of the events that make the books entertaining.

Reason #2 - Yule is not Christian, it's pagan and before that it was the winter solstice. Many cultures have celebrated these holidays long before Jesus was born.

Reason #3 - Many people in our current times who don't believe in Jesus celebrate Christmas. As these books are set in semi-current times it makes sense that they would celebrate Christmas.

Why ask a question that we can't even begin to address?

The HP world opens up so many countless possibilities about God(s) and religion that to make an sort of guess would be silly. If anything, it supports the idea of supernatural forces and supreme beings.

reason #2 is invalid because they call it christmas. there is no mention of yule or winter solstice at all when discussing the holiday.

They refer to a Yule ball in Goblet of Fire, but mostly you are correct.

Kirk, 'cause he's a dumbsh!t and he always scores the chicks.

EDIT: Foolish me, posting twice like this in one thread.

Any ground battle = Star wars win Jedi > *
Any Space battle = Star Trek win Enterprize > *

That's my opinion anyway 🙂

They're children's novels, not religious treatises. The only thing the existence of magic in them proves is that magic exists in them.

christmas is about presents and eating food

thats what it seems like in the books. i guess maybe they just celebrate the commercial side of the holiday

Basically.

I thought about the same thing, but you have to realize that Christmas is just considered another holiday in Europe. It isn't as closely tied to religion as in the US.
