Harrdrive Copy

Hi
I've got a 60Gb IDE drive, and I've just ordered a 120 GB SATA drive. What I want to do is replace the IDE drive with the SATA drive, but keep everything exactly the way it is. Is there any program I can use to transfer files/data/operating system/registry data/drivers from IDE drive to SATA drive, and then remove the IDE drive and have my SATA as primary. Is there any way I can do that?

Symantec Ghost
or Drive Image (now owned by Symantec)

The problem you may have is restoring the drive image to the SATA drive. The restore process is normally done in DOS which means the SATA drive may not be seen.

I use Ghost to transfer back in forth between IDE and SATA. I would 1st hook up te new SATA drive and load the drivers in XP on the IDE HD before Ghosting it.

I have a floppy disk with SATA drivers for the mobo. How exactly does Norton Ghost work, does it create an image of the harddrive and store it as a file which can be used by the program to *paste* onto a harddrive? Can you *paste* it onto the harddrive on which it is being stored? I don't know if i put this right...

new retail drives usually come with copy software, if you haven't gotten the drive yet

btw i heard seagate increased their warranties to 5 years, the one i'm buying is a seagate 120 gb barracuda and warranty is only 2 years (according to website) , of course i saw this after i bought it. Is there some restriction to the 5 year warranty?
this is the one i'm getting

The Seagate should be 5yrs as I believe the warranty changed as to when a HD was purchased and not the date on the HD itself so I would contact the vender and check before purchase. On the Ghost ? you can image or make a direct copy of the HD which is what I do. It loads in Dos and guides you along. It's pretty simple really🙂
