Thanks to Trump ban on Huawei, it's an all out war, to push american tech out. China is already tooling chip dies not just for ryzen, but for all the rest of cell phone tech, to make all the hardware in house ... now, even the software.

It was only a matter of time... Granted, it would have happened ban or not, but now it's really happening at a quick pace.

I finally switched over to a pixel. I'm not really in love with it... Everyone was telling me how "CLEAN" and how customizable android is on a Pixel! LOL, Yeah right! How's this for starters, there is a menu (google calls it "at a glance") that shows you the date, time and weather, and that's cool, but, if you want to remove it? NO, it's f'ing LOCKED there.... OK, so can we change the fonts or size? NO.... It's always there and none customizable. OK, well, I know there are workarounds for this. But, it's just silly.

Anyway, this is the kinds of things that happen when you don't play nice to other tech companies, and you know what? I hope they succeed and produce something that is a way better than android or iOS. No, I am not chinese or hate america, but...... I think we need more phone OS that we can load on our phones to make them more customizable to the user for what the user wants to see. I know there is always apps that you can do that, but in my view, you should not have to run an app in the background to make your phone more customizable.

It will be interesting to see how easy it will be to pull apps from google store or apple store and compile them for X or Y OS. I think Harmony making a OS that can be ran or easier to run on multiple OS's is the way to go.

Will be very interesting!

I feel this trade war with China has really screwed US tech companies more than China in the long run. Huawei got a bailout from China allegedly. Meanwhile the entire world saw the US block it's technology to China for a while, no Intel, Microsoft, Google, Qualcomm, etc for Chinese manufactures. Even FedEx got into trouble thanks to this. Other countries certainly must be thinking that if the US does this to China over a trade dispute, it could happen to them too. People are trying to reduce their dependency to big platforms like Windows and Google Android. And China is definitely big enough that it can build it's own platforms and in time spread them across the world.

Your expectation of the Pixel phone seems to be a little bit off. They are not known for being more customizable than other phones out of the box. Samsung probably holds that distinction. What Pixel goes for is being simpler and having less bloat. Being simpler includes having fewer customizations like fonts and themeing.
