Besides whats the difference between water bottles and the dishes in the sink? Very little. There's nothing wrong with Nalgene water bottles, I've used em almost daily since I was a kid and I'm still alive.
Ask your dad what exactly is wrong with reusing water bottles, I doubt he will have a good answer.

Yes, reusing cheap plastic bottles can make you sick. They are single use and attract bacteria like mad. I've experienced this first hand. I normally drink water out of one of those Rubbermaid bottles. I left it at the gym one night, so the next day I went to the gas station and bought a bottle of water. I resused that bottle for around a week and got really sick. With my Rubbermaid bottle I hardly ever wash the thing and I feel fine. It's probably due to higher quality plastic that is meant to be reused or is more bacteria resistant.
Of course this is just my experience. I see other people all the time reusing water and soda bottles with no problems.

only reason why i got one of them - direct screw on to my water filter
pretty much indestructable too - i was running up a flight of stairs and missed/slipped off a step, my lexan nalgene helped break my fall without any real damage.
