Harley Quinn creators say DC won't let Batman go down on Catwoman (avclub.com)

they were told “you absolutely cannot do that” when they tried to include a scene in the show’s third season that involved a Batman and Catwoman having sex. Here’s the full quote, because anything else won’t do it justice:

yeah well, that sounds very reasonable, actually.

see, violence, more so when it's people in costume vs other people in costume, needs to be thoroughly appreciated in its fullest to be seen as "violence". You really need to sit down to a show and watch a lot of it to be able to tell if it's violent or not.
House Of Cards is an incredibly violent show, but you won't get that from watching it casually.

Sex .. well, all you need is a quick glance at the TV. If person A is touching the boobies of person B, NO MATTER THE CONTEXT, it's sex.

Also, we are totally ok with cartoon violence. By which i mean, both actual cartoons, and anything which is "unrealistic". Superman can punch the Hulk without any moral issues, regardless of the fact that the same punch would have murdered a normal human.

I saw this earlier after clicking a Twitter link and seeing DJ Khaled (?) being compared to Batman was trending and was like...what? But yeah, these types of decisions over merch have long been a driving force. The new He-Man show reminded me that those were going to be Conan merch, until the movie turned out to have an X rating before heavy editing. And was still waaay too adult to sell kids toys.

The documentary "This Film is Not Yet Rated" covers a lot of that topic. With the MPAA, you are much more likely to get an NC-17 if a woman experiences pleasure. More likely to get an R if its just men experiencing pleasure. The film "Boys Dont Cry" had a cunnilingus scene which needed severe cutting before they let them have an R. The scene were whats-her-face gets her brains splattered on the wall was just fine.
