I am repainting a tank for one of my friends and I need to replace the factory emblems (or aftermarket replacement).

Anybody know a good place to order these from? Prefferably one that will take Paypal?

Thanks,
Jeff

You need genuine OEM tank decals from H-D, and H-D only sells to H-D dealers. Dealers can sell to an online wholesaler, but that kind of thing is frowned upon by the factory.

Do NOT buy any of the so-called "tank decals" from any of the aftermarket giants like CCI, Drag Specialties, V-Twin, etc. They are fine for sticking in your car window, but they're way too thick for painted body parts.

H-D has a small catalog of nothing but decals, and any H-D dealer should have a copy sitting around. Both the catalog and the decals will have part numbers like XXXXX-XX, and may have a revision letter as a suffix (XXXXX-XXa). Make sure you know what you're looking at before you buy.

There are also plenty of independent shops (non-dealers) that have parts arrangements with dealers, so you can try them if you don't have a dealer nearby.

Hey...thanks for the info.

And...there is no dealer within 100 miles of here.

When I redid the peanut tank on my Sporty a couple years ago, I obtained the decal from a dealer.

Some dealers mail order. Try Barnett HD of El Paso. They took care of me during both tours in Germany. Yes, the Germans have dealers but they charge an arm and leg for parts.

You can always call a dealer and have them order you a copy of the decal catalog I mentioned, mail it to you, figure out what you want, order it from the dealer and have them ship out the decals. The shop where I used to work did a substantial amount of mail order business. Just remember that nothing is free (including the catalog), and genuine tank decals aren't cheap. I recall some being as much as $25-30 per side.

Yeah...I am expecting to pay $25-30 apeice for the decals. Heck it is a nice Harley...prolly a $20,000 bike. He just let it tip over and scratched the paint on one of the halves of the fuel tank.
