Second fastest 0 to 60 time in Harley's lineup. Looks like it has a ton of lean angle as well.

If that photo is indicative of the final design then I'll give HD some kudos for breaking out of their mold.

Not trying to be negative towards the bike but power and range seem down compared to some of the better electric bikes detailed. I guess a price comparison would need to be made once any of them are actually available.

Range=53 miles

I couldn't even get to work and back home.

From the first article
One hurdle Harley and others have yet to address is the limited range offered by electric motorcycles. Batteries typically must be recharged after about 130 miles, and that can take 30 minutes to an hour

I will agree that this does not state that this is the range for this bike; however, I would expect that it would be close.

That should allow you to get from one end of SD County to the other.
Recharge at work as gorb stated, and you are ready to get back home.

/edit

From second article linked
Still, Gizmodo thinks the performance specs on the early prototypes are "distinctly unimpressive." With a top speed of 92 mph and a range of 53 miles, LiveWire is "left in the dust of other electric motorcycles currently on sale."
\

So, there is either conflicting information out there or additional work is expected to be done.
I will agree that the 80km range is a killer.

Still SD county is not 80km from end point to end point

The wired article states the range:
wired said:
Harley isn’t saying much about the drivetrain beyond saying the bike uses a lithium-ion battery with a range of 53 miles. It charges in 3.5 hours at 220 volts. Assuming the bike has a 3.3 kw charging system like other electric motorcycles, some back-of-the-envelope math suggests the LiveWire uses a 10 kilowatt-hour pack.

Just like their gas powered bikes, they don't work/perform as well as the competition.

No surprise there.

I would think range matters more to harley owners than most other vehicles - isn't the point to take the bike on long rides and road trips? That said, this would be a very appreciated/welcome commuter replacement for the guys that make more noise and pollution than anyone else on the road.

My commute is 30-35 miles one way depending on what route I take and as it stands currently we have no means to recharge an electric vehicle where I work. This is one of the reasons I don't own an electric car.

FTR-San Diego county is over 4,500 sq miles with 70 miles of coastline. The county is larger in area than the combined states of Rhode Island and Delaware.

HD has a range of models and quite a few of those have shitty range.
For some of the sportsters you are looking at pit stops every 100-110 miles or so and on the bigger touring bikes (more fuel capacity) 160-180+

Of the Harley groups I know personally, their rides are 88% ride 20 miles to bar\restaurant of choice.
1 percent for the big group ride to bed and breakfast thats close to a bar\restaurant 500 miles away.
.1 percent Charity ride
Remainder is ride to work. charge the battery misc stuff.

Either way, pitstop every 100 miles or so. To stretch the legs at the very least

I would love for Harley to go all electric.
I hate loud exhaust

Same here! But will the Harley guys really ride Electric??? Seems like the last group of people to ever convert seeing how they tend to love the loud exhausts /stereotyping. I'm all for it though and I'm happy to know that Harley is leading the way here on this.

Charge it at work :)

Many places won't allow that. We don't have chargers here at work and one person questioned if they could plug into the light pole to charge and were told they would be terminated for stealing electricity.

The half helmet (or no helmet), leather vest image monkeys and some of the diehards will probably avoid it.

Normal Harley riders (easily identified by full face helmets and proper gear) as well as the demographic who hate all the "shifty thingee" (won't elaborate on demographic to avoid all the whining and complaining) about motorcycles will probably hop right on board with electric harleys.

My area must have a disproportionate amount of monkeys riding motorcycles because your first description matches 9 out of 10 Harley riders in my area.

Spoken like someone who has never owned a Harley.

I have to agree.
As standards, tourers and cruisers go they are nice bikes.
I personally don't see myself buying one because I prefer a different type of riding but I have enjoyed my time on them.
