We just put in a new hardwood floor, one of those pre-finished put-the-puzzle-together styles, and there is a two foot long half inch wide dent/scrape left from the foot of the refrigerator. Is there any way to patch it in or pop it out?

DAMM

That is what you get for not putting down rosin paper or padding before moving large appliances..

There really is not much you can do besides sanding that panel and filling it with wood putty. They you will have to vist walmart or home depot and pickup some midwax stain that matches the stain on your Hard wood floor. In the end it won't match but it should be pretty dam close. You also need to match the semi gloss as well.

If it still looks like shit you might have to end up taking the entire floor apart just to reach that piece and replacing it. Is it on the edge or in the center???

ya, you can cut the piece out. cut all the goove parts off, remove the offending piece, find a similar sized piece, cut off grooves. but in the place, you will have to glue that piece down tho.

You'd be amazed at how water/steam can restore wood to its original shape.

HOWEVER, I've never done it to already finished wood. I'll usually paint the wood with water or put a wet cloth on it if the dent is big enough and then hit it with my heat gun.

There might be a way to inject water or completely remove the finish and then restore it. If it were me I'd be hitting up the newsgroup rec.woodworking, I think HappyPuppy and Hayabusarider visit the woodnet.net forums.

I assume you mean an engineered wood floor, I doubt water will swell that.
