hardwiring home

In a week or so I am going to install a telephone jack in every room in my house so I was think why not setup a ethernet data jack to go along with it. The wiring will be pretty easy since I live in first floor and underneath is the garage which I use to run wires to the locations I need.

Anyone have any suggestions of which faceplats I should use and the components I would need to accomplish this task?

That newcome project was nicely done, don't know if I could setup as well as them. I was thinking in the lines of setting up a jacks that would run to a router. THis would allow all the computers to share the DSL modem (connected only to the router) and dial when needed.

You might try the Networking forum here if you're looking for specific advice on parts, or how to set things up. Your questions are a little vague...

You will need a punch down tool, some punch down blocks, lots of catV some RJ-45 connectors, a set of crimpers and a cutting tool. Strippers are nice as are testers. As for faceplates, its pretty much what you think looks good

I would definitely use plenum-rated (for fire safety) high-speed cabling capable of Gigabit LAN for future proofing.
