hardwire connection not working

I can't get connection anymore using hardwire, I did earlier this week, I can't figure out what's wrong, any ideas, thanks.
edit: my cable modem is usually only lit up when I'm using the internet, but not it's lit up even when I don't touch it.

Could be disabled, could be drivers, could be bad cable, could be loose. CHeck for link lights on the nic plug itself, if you have them then something software related is happening, if you dont have them, then its the card itself gone bad, or a cable connection issue, try another cable or port. Getitng back to if you have lights, try opening a command prompt and typing ping 127.0.0.1 and see if it replies, thats local host, if you dont get a reply there, NIC is bad or installed wrong. if you do nic and network are ok, and something else is the isue.

I know this thread it old, but I really need to fix my hardwire connection, the port turns a yellow color when something is plugged into, it's integrated into the motherboard too.
edit: I forgot to add that the cable itself works, I'm using it on another computer right now.
