Hardware / Software firewall

I have a linksys befsx router/firewall, and use Outpost firewall. I have a couple of question. I seem to be getting hit with attacks that are being blocked by outpost firewall. Why would my router not be blocking this? Is using the default setting with a hardware router/firewall sufficient? I have a few open ports on there for games, ventrillo, mirc, and thats about it.

a lot of firewalls like zone alarm seem to be very sensitive and report almost everything.

as i recall, your router doesn't have stateful packet inspection (SPI), only NAT.
