Currently I have three relics with nic's...on computer is always on so it has two nic's and works as the host to a cable modem. I have some sort of hub with 4 ports to connect all three computers and form my LAN....

here is the question...

I will be upgrading two computers and handing down two...the two new computers will be available with onboard LAN motherboards...I am leaning towards a Gbit & 100Mbit dual LAN connection motherboards, but may settle for any single connection...WHAT is the best configuration to connect these computers to the internet? Gbit to the modem and 100Mbit for the LAN or vice versa?

some thoughts and advise appreciated

You would be wasting the GIGABIT on the modem unless you have some sort of super connection.

I have 3Mbit dsl so in theroy I could use a 10Mb lan card to connect (i Use a 10/100)

GIGABIT will help with file transfer speeds but for your use you should not need GIGABIT.

Get a Router or use on of the oler computers to run smoothwall or ClarkConnect.
