I'm looking to purchase a SCSI Raid Controller, hardware not software, which support RAID 0. The problem is, reviews of this sort of stuff seem a little thin on the ground. The card is for home use, not for a server. Can anyone direct me to some reviews of this type or card, or perhaps make some reccomendations?

Depends on what ur wanting to do with the machine....

Gaming, Video Editing, DataMining, etc., etc.

If u want a 32-bit RAID card the can handle all RAID levels, not just 0/1....go with a AMI ExpressRaid 500 Ultra160 Single Channel w/32meg Battery Backed Cache. (Cards are fast and inexpensive)

If u want a 64-bit RAID card u have quite a few different choices....depends on what speed u wanna go...Ultra2, Ultra160, Ultra320....

Adaptec, AMI/LSI Logic, and Mylex, are the main brands to stick with...

If u just want striping, which is not cached. your best bet is an Adaptec Ultra320 29320-R Card....Not a true raid card, but for striping it will work just as well.

This is simply for a PC which will be running two 15K Cheetah 36GB drives, a DVD drive, and possibly a writer. I understand their are different speeds, but what is the real difference? Is the full bandwidth used, or is it like IDE where the difference between ATA100 and ATA133 is 0 because the HDs cannot keep up?

The most intensive activity on this PC will probably be gaming.

What is caching used for then?

I am unfamiliar with ICP in relation to RAID. What is that?
