Hardware recommendations for Silverstone LC13 Case

Hi,

I have decided to build a server to store my music (will hook up to SqueezeBox3).

I don?t really need the server to be ?HTPC? spec (not concerned about TV etc) and will probably just run Linux and SlimServer, but for space I would like to use this style of case.

The Silverstone LC13 (possibly LC04?) seems to get good reviews and it appears to be just what I?m looking for (width: 440mm max).

If this is the case to go for, can anyone recommend a compatible motherboard / CPU / PSU, or guides as to which hardware is compatible with another?

PS Although my intention is to install Linux, I am thinking about dual-booting with XP so that I could possibly run windows based apps (EAC) if required.

Thanks in advance, Warren

I'm not really a hardware expert ? In the past I?ve just bought Dell etc, but that seems a bit excessive for my needs.

Can I pretty much put any motherboard into this case?

If so, I will do some research on the best standard mobo to buy.

Thanks, Warren

Some questions...

* Do you like the look of a HTPC case (low/flat), or are you just looking for something small?
* What's your budget for the whole project?
* Is your data important enough to justify the cost of a RAID 1 (two HDs mirrored) array?
* All components must have Linux supported drivers, correct?

I would like to be able to put the unit with into my stereo cabinet (max 440mm), so this type seems to fit well. I did look at the ?cube? type and could be persuaded but the low/flat does go with amp etc.

Budget-wise I can?t really justify spending over £400 ($800) for the Case / mobo / CPU / RAM. The cheaper the better, though

I don?t feel I need RAID but would like 2x HDD?s internally (1 for the OS, and a 320-odd GB for data files). It will mostly be music and I back up my flac files to DVD.

Installing Linux is something I?ve always looked at doing, but if it gets to complicated I?d like to be able to ?bail out? with XP!

The MOZART SX is a very nice looking case.
The case should be used with cool running components that don't require mega-HS to cool them.
You can install two HD's. But I'd get something like Samsung drives that run cool.

Thanks for the advice Blain. For the case, I think I am going to stick with the LC13 - I like the fact the front is panel-covered - the unit will be near to the floor and exposed...
