It is definately not worth getting a HW raid controller for RAID 0 nor is it worth running RAID 0 at all.

agreed. if you look at most benchmarks on the web (too lazy to post a link, google it yourself and i garauntee you'll find something it 20 seconds) it proves that raid 0 provides little performance, and in some cases no performance. definately a waste, unless you really need to compensate for something...
