Hardware PCI raid or software WinXp raid?

I'm using a cheap-o $12 silicon image PCI raid controller.. Am I better off using the ide channels on my abit BH7 board and then doing a software raid in windows?

If you're doing software RAID, it would free-up a PCI slot.

The PCI card is (annoyingly and surprisingly) pretty close to being just software RAID anyhow. I don't think you'll notice any difference in performance, but if there is any it'll probably be a reduction.
