Hardware Modem Problem - Potential IRQ conflict?

So I recently got a hardware modem to replace my crap Winmodem. Pings on Day of Defeat are excellent. Right around 250 most of the time. Hella better pings than my WinModem. However, I get these annoying pause/lag spikes. I'm running forward, then it pauses, then it unpauses and I'm 20 feet ahead. I'm thinking this has to be a problem with my computer because it wasn't like this with the winmodem. The motherboard is an Iwill KK266. The modem is a hardware ISA modem. Maybe it's an IRQ thing? Is there a way I can change it so the ISA slot/modem gets it's own IRQ? BTW, my winmodem was a PCI. Any help appreciated!

Yes. Most BIOS let you assign IRQs to ISA slots. I know most Asus do. You really should never have a IRQ problem with a hardware modem. You should disable the Com1 port, and then use that IRQ for the ISA slot the modem is in. Too bad you didn't get an external modem. It is then a non problem because the com ports use IRQs that Windows just never touches. (3 and 4)
