What's the best board out there now for the AMD athlons?

I would personally go with one ehich uses the Kt266A chipset. I personally use a shuttle AK31 and it rocks.

I second the KT266A chipset but which motherboard completely depends on what features you are looking for.

You might just want to do a forum search on 266a or go back a few pages in the motherboard forum and I'm sure you'll find this question asked a couple of times.

seen some used 8K7A's for $65 in FS/FT ECS are cheap too if you on a budget

Personally I like my SOYO Dragon +. Its nice to have built in LAN and the sound is exceptional for being intigrated. BIOS support for XP was pretty quick and if you o'clock, it has a wide variety of settings. Costs more then the AK31 though.

If I were building one now I would go with Epox.

if you favor any particular brand... go for it...

just don't get the MSI board... i think that board ranked the highest on complaints... but i'm sure it would work fine in most cases as well.

Actually, I'm running the MSI board now. While I'll admit, it was a little quircky and hard to get a balance at first, it's been really good to me ever since I got it properly installed. I just like to keep up to date on the new technology and I hope to build a new system sometime next year

the new abit is supposed to be really good, but also really expensive. the epox's are fast but quirky, and the shuttle seems to be an all-around solid choice if you're not gonna overlcock.

If you won't to tweak and overclock your system like crazy, I would get the Abit KR7A. You can get it with or without on board raid and ATA133 support. No onboard sound, 4 dimm slots, and 6 pci. Has KT266A chipset and fast as hell. I'm getting one for Christmas So I can't say anything from a first hand view, but I made my decision as you can see.

Don't you mean the A7V266-E? The A7V266 uses the KT266 chipset which is slower and has issues. The 266-E uses the KT266A which is by far the best there is right now.

I'd go with either Shuttle or Epox. The Abit one looks good (especially if you want to overclock). The ASUS one is probably excellent as well although a bit pricey.

I assume these boards support the Athlon XP's? Also, what kind of hardware runs pc150? I know that the newer boards run DDRram, but I've never seen a board that runs pc150. Am I just looking in the wrong places?
