Hardware for recording video output?

I have one computer that is used by my son for computer simulation racing at a professional level. We are currently recording the races by splitting the video out and sending a copy to a VCR. Then we have to video capture it back in to edit it for web use. I would like to eliminate the extra step of vidcap and also eliminate the losses from the extra generations. Is there a hardware solution (maybe off the VGA feature connector or???) to record the video output directly to a HD in the PC?
