I have an old Cyrix 266, 64MB of RAM, 1GB (approx) hard drive... basically a cheap bare-bones system.

I already share my cable connection between two computers (my 1.33Ghz Athlon and my 566Mhz PIII), I have a 3com hub.

What I'm wondering is how hard it would be to install a firewall on it. I've also got two decent network cards for it.

I'm new to the whole *nix thing, so I need help!

I appreciate it, thanks!

All you need is a single port Netgear, Linksys, Dlink, etc. hardware firewall then. You can pick one up for about 80.00

>>>What is ClarkConnect?

With a lot of help from Linux open-source software and a little help from ClarkConnect, you can recycle a tired old computer into an Internet gateway. <<<

John, I'm not putting any money into it. I've already got a working (old) computer, two network cards for it, and all the cable I need.

I'll try the one that beatniks suggested. thanks guys.

OpenBSD + IPtables/IPchains is the best firewall router that you can get.
Ann easyer way and almost as secure is to use any Easy to install Linux & Mooth Wall with web base administration.

Linux kernel 2.2.4 based stripped down distribution
Ethernet and dial up ISP support
ipchains based firewall

IP masquerading (NAT)
Hardware required: 40 Mb hardisk, 8 Mb ram, 486-33 or better
