Hardware firewall slowdown

I have the Dlink DFL-80 firewall.

When my computer is connected to it, my download is around 756 kbps.

When my computer is connected to a switch then to the cable modem, my download is around 2549 kbps.

This greatly affects my download speed.... why? Is it defected or just because it's filtering? I do have the latest firmware update too.

Maybe a couple things.

1. the firewall is inspecting traffic coming through so a possible performance hit there.
2. Could be an auto negotiation problem between your firewall eth port and your NIC.

Not familiar with the Dlink product, but maybe that'll get you started.
