Hardware DVD copy protection remover?

I am not trying to do anything illegal, just record movies off the TV using my new DVD recorder. This is the same thing as recording movies to VHS, so I can't see it being illegal. Problem is some how my DVD recorder says that several movies from the TV are copyright protected and it wont record them.

First of all, how the heck does it know that a TV movie is copy protected??? And 2nd, is there any way around this without using a computer? What I am looking for is something to remove that TV copy protection signal so my DVD recorder can record TV movies. Does such a thing exist?

They can embed digital codes in the stream these days, RF Modulator FTW.

Hookup your Cable Box to it, output the RF output to your DVD input, it won't know the difference.
