Hardware Diagnostics Boot Disk

I?m working on a computer which I thought had a virus. It would automatically reboot after start up, randomly. I tried to scan it with internet antivirus software with no avail, it kept shutting down in the middle of the scan. I decided the best bet was to reformat, and upgrade the computer from 98 to XP. The Compaq Pasario met all the system requirements needed for XP. Well after a standard Fat32 format and a few failed attempts to copy and install files, I got XP to finally boot up. Things went well for a day, the next day I brought the computer back to the customer, in the middle of setting the pc up on the network, the Compaq rebooted. It then continued to reboot over, and over, and over again. I'm thinking hard drive problems, it may be something different, and anyways I've heard of a Hardware Diagnostic boot disk, it was called Knovics or something. If you know the correct spelling for that boot disk fill me in, or if you know one that?s better please feel free to let me know.

Much thanks

Victor

well there is one thing that you could use, not in the same line as what you are thinking but, there is the www.ultimatebootcd.com which has all the hard drive manufacture's diagnostic tool's and also memory tests as well

Or you can just download them seperatly from the hdd makers website and they create a bootable floppy

Either way, i'd check the harddrive and memory.

The diagnostics tool I heard about was knoppix I?m currently downloading it at the phenomenal speed of 7.4kbs. I should have it downloaded by Christmas its a whopping 700mbs. I?m definitely going to try out ultimatebootcd. How well has it worked for you? Does it have an easy interface? I'll find out soon myself.
