Hardware conflict issues

Hey everyone, I've got a problem that has been driving me crazy. I have an Asus A7A266 MB with an Athlon 1.33Ghz processor. The major problem that I'm having is with my Soundblaster Live 5.1 sound card. Everytime I install it, I get the blue screen of death just after the Windows boot-up screen. It says that there's an "exception in OE 0028:ff045A63 in VxD called from 0028:C1874627 in VxD." I've tried installing it on W98 SE and WMe. Any ideas on what I can do? Thanks in advance for your help!

Check on how your mobo shares IRQs w/the PCI slots. I've found it beneficial to have my XGamer (fancy SBlive) NOT share an IRQ, via a neighboring PCI slot. If worse comes to worst, you can always manually assign IRQ's in the BIOS. That's a last-ditch attempt, though. Try moving the card, or a neighboring card first. Good luck.

BTW, mine is an X-Gamer, too! So far, I've put it into three different PCI slots. I'm not all too familiar with assigning IRQ's. All I know is that it's located in the BIOS. What should I set it to?

The mobo manual should tell you words to the effect "AGP and PCI slot one share an IRQ, PCI slots 3 and 5 share an IRQ, PCI slots 2 and 4 share an IRQ" and so on. Move the card to a slot that isn't sharing an IRQ with another slot. Assigning IRQ's in the bios is tricky and can cause more probs than what you have now. Try moving the card first.

I don't have the same mobo as you, but most (again, RTM! Read The Manual) but most, most mobos share IRQ's

AGP and PCI 1
PCI 2 and 4
PCI 3 and 5
PCI 6 and ISA slot (if so equipped)

I have vidcard in AGP
Slot 1 empty
NIC in slot 2
Xgamer in slot 3
Slot 4 empty
Dialup modem (not in use) in slot 5
Additional USB hub in slot 6 (not connected to PCI slot though).

Your mileage may differ. RTM.
