I have an asus cusl2-c mobo and bios 1008. I noticed a while ago with win2k that my floppy would seem to access itself for no reason sometimes. Anyway, I formatted and with the 4th boot disk for win2k, it got an error. I also could not install win98 because I would get some erroe or a true type font error. So i unplugged the floppy from the mobo and the power to the floppy. The installs then worked. Now, when I boot up, it gives me this in the post screen:
Floppy Disk(s) fail (40)
Press F1 to continue ot del to enter setup

Remember, the floppy is not connected. But it detects a 3.5" drive a: in windows and after the post screen. Is it my controller or my floppy drive? What can I do?

If you decide to completely disconnect the floppy, you should set the BIOS to reflect that fact (set it to NONE), otherwise it will give you that error.

The floppy drive accessing itself is not necessarily a problem. There is an issue with Win2K Server that sometimes makes it access the floppy drive for no particular reason. I don't know if that issue affects Win2K Pro as well (it doesn't do it for me).

The latest BIOS for the CUSL2-C is Version 1009.
