Hardware and airport security

This topic is kind of in the grey area, so if this is posted on the wrong forum, I apologize.

A while ago I heard about the security checks in airports could damage computer hardware that go through them. Since I will be boarding an international flight on Saturday with essentially a teared-downed PC, I am quite worried about what will happen to my gear. Please, if you have any expertise on this, provide me with some insights. Or, if you have recently traveled on an airplane with hardware, please let me know if anything happened to your stuff. Thank you.

Our laptop went through a lot of xrays...big and small... during an international flight... no problems though. A little annoying when they make you turn it on and off just to see if it really is a laptop.. but not as annoying if someone has a bomb that looks like a laptop on board.

What if you dont have something that can be turned on? Like, a mobo, or a power supply(which could look very much like a bomb to someone).

Well, I used to bring my HDD between college and my home, and I never put it in the x-ray scan. I was probably paranoid since I'm pretty sure that they're quite safe, but its better safe than sorry. I always got the security guys to hand check the HDD.

I regularly fly with hardware.

Motherboard in the motherboard box, fully packed the same way as I bought it, and in the static bag. Same with RAM. Processor still sealed in box.

Hard drives in static bag and one of those Seagate "SeaShell" plastic cases that they ship hard drives in.

Never had a problem.

One more question to Andy, will static bags/seashells protect the hardware from X-rays? What about the air-bubble container that holds the power supply?

Nope, they won't. Airport security will probably still be able to make out the shape and see the nitty gritty circuitry inside, but no worrys, the X-ray should be film safe as well as computer hardware safe.
