We are all serious here. There are many hdd recovery tools, depending on the OS and the problem, what is your problem?
Cables are a good start.
Does it spin up?

I have Win XP Pro
Cables are right
I dont know whether the HD is spinning but it makes some noise during boot....but bios does not detect any IDE devices attached !
Can u plz name some HD Recovery tools...

Try a different cable.
Connect cable to the other IDE motherboard connector.
Try a different power connector.

You have to get the BIOS to see the drive before any of those utilities will do anything.

Actually i was listening to mp3s when suddenly my HDD stopped responding...I pressed...ctrl+alt+del and there was a blue screen ....so i rebooted the PC and at that time it showed message no bootable media found....
Could it be a virus??

Probably not a virus, sounds like a catastrophic failure. You will have to try installing the hdd on another machine as a slave. If the other computer cannot recognize it either then it is dead. Sometimes the freezer trick works, put the hdd in a plastic bag and freeze it for a couple hours, then try it while it is cold. If it won't start tap it lightly or grab the hdd and twist it back and forth with your wrist to unstick the platters. If nothing works and your date is irreplaceable then you will have to use a data recovery service or find a hdd exactly like yours and start switching out parts. I would start with the circuit board.
