Hi all,
I am currently setting up a server HP ProLiant ML350 G6 Server. I have 3x146GB. The total size is 438GB and all those hard disk is online.
But when I am installing the server OS, the total HD size is around 279GB which is less than the actual size.
Why this scenario can happen? Somebody please advice me on this.

Thanks and have a nice day :)

Are the HDs setup in any type of RAID array?
A 146GB HD won't format out to the full 146GB capacity.

Can you guide me on how to check whether HD is setup in RAID array?

Every server / RAID controller is different, there isnt one defacto guide someone could type up to tell you how to do it. Generally in the boot up screens there is a command, such as ctrl+S or something along those lines that it tells you to push to configure the controller. Its fairly straight forward.

438 GB should format to ~427GB, so the loss you are seeing is consistent with a RAID 5 array. Where in you would only get the formattable size of 2 of your 3 drives.

Additionally, I would probably leave the drives in the RAID5 so that you don't have to take the system down in the even of a HDD failure. Remember though, RAID is no replacement for backups!

The loss of hard disk size (159GB) is used for what purpose?

A. We don't know what RAID configuration is being used (if any), in your server. So therefore we can't accurately assess your specific situation.
B. A HDs formatted size is always less than the specified size (Google Here).

I've already told you...
Can you guide me on how to check whether HD is setup in RAID array?
Sure, no problem, bring the HP by my house and I'll check it out for you.

boy the spelling and grammar errors is this thread... yikes...

Anyways, OP, we need you to give us information so we can help you. That is that, end of story. Otherwise; you can call HP, and they should know what the problem is, or if there is a problem at all.
