Wow, I had seen the Mercury Research and Steam Survey results, but this still surprised me.

691 mid-range and up nVidia nV4x cards owned by HardOCP members, only 265 ATI mid-range and up cards. More 6800GTs than all ATI combined.

For what it's worth, interesting to me anyway. ATI had best launch some product if this sample of about 1000 gamers is any indication.

BTW- please do not take this as a "trolling" post. We are gamers, this is a fairly large sample of buying trends among board rats like us.

I do not mean to start a "nVidia vs ATI" thread here, or imply one is better than the other, and for sure I do not want to discuss 5800s, soft shadows, SM3 or EXR HDR.

Presented for possible interest only, I personally will not respond to any flame posts in this thread.
 
I'm more shocked at the amount of people with lower end graphics cards in this day and age. Even check the Steam Hardware Survey. The top card is the 9600 series, followed by the 9800 series, and then the FX5200 series and the G4MX series!

It doesnt suprise me. A similar "survey" in the FX days, showed about the same gap for ATi. NV had a very strong year last year, and still this year too.

Keep in mind, thats for people who actually run 3dmark. Lots of people dont. I REALLY doubt there are twice as many people with 7800GTX's than X800XL's on any forum.

The steam survey is much more accurate for the overall picture. Much more people, and I would say more gamers play HL2, than 3Dmark.

edit, its not a poll. Its people who try to impress with 3dmark. I dont doubt there are more current gen NV cards than ATi cards on most any hardware forum right now. But that is not a poll.
 
You have to remember Ackmed that I haven't responded with all my cards to REALLY shift the numbers!

Yep, I realize it's not what we would have called a perfect sample back in college days, but it's still interesting.
 
It seems to me that at the time 6800gt was reviewed , almost all sites were saying it was the best bang for buck card. The readership picked up on that plus there was no 16 pipe ati card at that price point.
